Saffron known as Crocus sativus L. is very important geophyt and spread over Northern hemisphere up to 1000 metres from sea level especially Mediterranean basin (Greece, Spain, Italy, Turkey, France),  Iran, India. It has been cultured during the ancient time due to its medicinal and aromatic properties. Stigmas of saffron has different usage in various industry (dye, food or beverages additive and pharmacology industry) because of its biochemical components (Crocin, safranal and  picrocrosin). Saffron corms reach to flowers in a short time after planting to the field in autumn.  Dried stigmas of saffron is one of the most expensive spice due to odoriferous, coloring, and medicinal properties. As a matter of fact, value of one gram of saffron is nearly equivalent to the that of gold and its sale price is around 13.000 dollar per kg in the markets.

The International Society for Horticultural Science decided to organize 6th Saffron Symposium in XXX International Horticulture Congress to be held at Istanbul, Turkey at 12-16 August 2018. The Symposium will be hosted researchers, producers, academics, extension advisors, marketers to discuss and bring solutions to the problems related with saffron in the same platform.
